Cleaning of monuments and historic heritage

We laser-clean historic buildings, monuments and ornamental features, preserving the patina, the carving and the original materials.

On a historic building or a monument, cleaning is not just about removing dirt: it is about doing so without losing any of what makes it valuable. Carved stone, reliefs, inscriptions or mason’s marks cannot be recovered if aggressive cleaning wipes them out.

That is why, in heritage work, laser cleaning is our main technique: it lets us remove dirt layer by layer, in complete control, and stop just as we reach the original material.

What work we carry out

Stone facades

Removal of dirt, pollution and black crusts from the ashlar and wall surfaces of historic and listed buildings.

Ornamental features

Sculptures, reliefs, coats of arms, inscriptions and architectural details of high artistic value.

Graffiti on heritage sites

Removal of graffiti from monuments, churches and protected buildings without damaging the substrate.

Conservation criteria

  • Prior analysis of the material and its state of conservation before deciding on the work.
  • Minimum intervention: we remove what damages the material, and no more.
  • Preservation of the natural patina and of the tool marks from the carving.
  • Trials on inconspicuous areas, approved by the owner or the technical director.
  • Work at height with the right equipment so as not to damage the building.

Protected buildings

Work on protected or listed buildings must comply with the project and the relevant permits. We work with architects, conservators and technical directors, and adapt the cleaning to their criteria.

If the facade also needs repairing, see our historic facade restoration. And if you would like more technical information, download our laser cleaning dossier (PDF, in Spanish).

Free trial: before you decide, we carry out a trial clean on an inconspicuous area of your facade or your piece, so that you can see the result on your own material.

From Viladecavalls (Barcelona) we work across Spain and on international projects.

Heritage FAQs

Can laser cleaning be used on listed buildings?

Yes, it is a technique widely used in heritage conservation because of its precision and because it is not abrasive. As with any work on a protected building, it must comply with the project and the relevant permits.

Does it preserve the patina of the stone?

Yes. By adjusting the laser energy, the dirt and harmful crusts are removed while the natural patina, the weathered layer that protects the stone, is preserved, along with the carving and the mason’s marks.
