Hot-spray polyurea is one of the most effective waterproofing systems available today. It is sprayed with specialist equipment and, within seconds, forms a continuous, elastic, jointless membrane that bonds to the substrate and seals it completely.
At Catalana de Rehabilitació we apply it on roofs, terraces, balconies, car parks, tanks and industrial surfaces that need long-lasting protection against water.
Advantages
No joints
A single continuous layer, with no overlaps or seams: the weak points where leaks usually start disappear.
Fast
It cures in seconds and can be walked on within a few hours. The work takes less time and causes very little disruption.
Elastic
It moves with the substrate and with temperature changes without cracking.
Tough
It withstands foot and vehicle traffic, impact, abrasion, UV rays and many chemicals.
Properly applied and with minimal maintenance, polyurea waterproofing can last more than 20 years.
Where it is used
- Flat and pitched roofs.
- Terraces and roof terraces, accessible or not.
- Balconies.
- Car parks and ramps.
- Water tanks and swimming pools.
- Roofs and surfaces of industrial buildings.
In many cases it is applied directly over the existing tiles or finish, without taking them up, which saves demolition, rubble and time.
Polyurea compared with other systems
| Hot-spray polyurea | Bitumen membrane | Waterproofing paint | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joints | None | Overlaps between sheets | None |
| Use after application | Within a few hours | Needs protection or a floor finish | Once dry |
| Resistance to traffic | High | High under tiles | Low |
| Durability | Over 20 years if properly applied | Good | Short: it is a thin layer |
| Over the existing finish | Often, yes | Normally not | Yes |
How we apply it
Preparing the substrate
We clean and dry the surface and repair cracks, joints and damaged areas.
Primer
If the substrate needs it, we apply a primer to ensure good adhesion.
Spraying
We spray the polyurea hot with specialist equipment, taking care over outlets, corners and junctions.
Final inspection
We check thicknesses and critical points before handing over the surface.
If you want to know whether your terrace or roof is suitable for polyurea, we will inspect it and give you a no-obligation quote. From Viladecavalls (Barcelona) we work across Spain and on international projects.

Frequently asked questions about polyurea
What is hot-spray polyurea?
A coating that is sprayed hot with specialist equipment and forms, within seconds, a continuous, elastic, jointless membrane. It bonds to the substrate and acts as a waterproof barrier on roofs, terraces, balconies, car parks and tanks.
How long does polyurea waterproofing last?
Properly applied and with minimal maintenance, it can last more than 20 years. It withstands UV rays, temperature changes, moisture and many chemicals.
Is it better than bitumen felt?
It has one clear advantage: there are no joints or overlaps, which is where membrane systems usually fail. It also cures straight away and can be applied over many existing surfaces. Bitumen felt is still a good option in some cases, especially under tiles.
How long does it take to dry?
It cures in seconds and the surface can be walked on within a few hours, so the work causes very little disruption to residents or to activity in the building.
Does the surface need preparing before it is applied?
Yes, and that is the key to a good result: the surface is cleaned and dried, cracks and damaged areas are repaired and, if the substrate requires it, a primer is applied before the polyurea is sprayed.
